Walking Itinerary Guide

Day 1: Travel to the Dordogne, France, arrive and be collected via minibus from Thiviers train station, by your hosts. Arrive at Lavaud for aperitifs and dinner on the terrace. Spend time getting to meet your walking group and discuss the week's walks.

Each morning will start with a sumptuous French breakfast of croissants, pain au chocolat, French breads and jams, taken on the terrace where the day's walking itinerary will be confirmed.

Day 2: Jumilhac Le Grand - The scenic walk from the village of Jumilhac Le Grand where its huge impressive Chateau looms down on the river Isle where still to this day people try their luck panning for gold !
Picnic lunch will be taken beside the river.
12km circuit walk (6km shorter circuit also possible)

Day 3: Sorges - The famous truffle region of Sorges, known as the Truffle Capital of the Perigord, and Perigord claims to be the Truffle Capital of the World ! The Sorges Truffles are known worldwide and are highly sought after. We arrive at this walking destination and will walk through truffle orchards on this walk as well as visit the Truffle museum.
The famous St Jacques de Compostelle walking route runs through Thiviers and Sorges. There is the opportunity to walk part of this famous route. A delicious picnic lunch to be taken near the truffle orchards.

Day 4: St Jean de Cole - Listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France the walk around St Jean De Cole area is taken along part of the Voie Verte (the old railway line). A simply stunning village where you literally take a step back in time along the little cobbled alleyways, stone bridge, beautiful chateau and unique church. The river Cole passes through this beautiful village and Picnic lunch will be taken nearby. This walk can be taken in 2 stages.

Day 5: Brantôme - The Venice of the Perigord, encircled by the river Dronne, Brantôme is an amazing town with its famous Benedictine Abbey, which was founded in 769. Time will be allowed to take in this beautiful village and lunch will be taken by the riverbank. Today's walk will be along ancient chemins in the surrounding countryside. Approx 10km

Day 6: Excideuil - The enchanted rocks, this walking trail takes in several quaint little hamlets which are built on a limestone plateau. Starting near the river Loue walk in the footsteps of the prehistoric bear and discover the grottes of Sarconnat, the grotte de l'eglise and the climbing rock walls. On this walk there are nearly 400 diverse species of flowers and plants known and classified, including 19 varieties of wild orchids. A morning visit to the local market town is included on this trip.

Day 7: Last walk- The final walking day of your holiday can be taken relaxing at Lavaud or a local unguided walk of approx 11km can be taken, incorporating the very local walks and trails straight from Lavaud. Past the local chateau and through St Paul La Roche on walking trails and small roads. St Paul La Roche is on the St Jacques de Compostelle route and has a Knights Templar house in the village. Also known for its famous Quartz white rock that was 40-50m high and 600m in diameter, the last scraps of the rock were claimed by NASA !

Day 8: Breakfast on the terrace and saying your goodbyes. Minibus taking you back to either Thiviers train Station or Limoges airport.
